A sci-fi adaptation of No Longer Human, was born from a casual chat with a friend 25 years ago. We gathered a dream team and tore the original apart—on purpose. What emerged was a disturbing masterpiece that exposes how society has trampled on individual dignity throughout history. I've been blown away by the results.

I asked YOKO TARO if he’d make an anime. He said, “I’m busy, but I can chat over drinks.” So I kept hosting drinking parties—and out of this chaos, we found a spark. And that spark became this anime.

There I am, petting my cat, when I'm struck by the thought, “This cat-filled manga needs to be animated.” The moment I started, cat lovers gathered: staff, producers, voice actors—like it was fate. Clearly, this was all part of my cat's grand plan.

While working remotely, I saw a video on social media of someone singing opera with an otamatone. I thought, “This could be an anime.” We reached out to Maywa Denki—and what came back was nothing like I'd imagined but amazing. Now I finally get the saying: “When you gaze into the Otamatone, the Otamatone gazes back.”
